Background
Professor Tanya Fitzgerald has a varied professional career and has held positions as a secondary school teacher, head of department, a university lecturer and team manager in a corporate company.
She was based at Unitec Institute of Technology (a dual sector government tertiary institution) from 1998-2008. For the 2007-2008 academic year, she was Visiting Professor at the University of Nottingham (UK). In 2009 Tanya took up the role as Academic Director in La Trobe University's Faculty of Education.
Tanya's research interests span two fields; history of education and educational leadership and she supervises research students across both fields. Her work has been published in national and international journals. She has secured research funding from national and international bodies and won a number of prestigious research prizes. Tanya's two forthcoming books deal with such topics as the history of academic women (1907-1961) and gender policies in Australian and New Zealand universities (2000-2008).
Since 2000, Tanya has been the Chief Editor of History of Education Review, in 2006 she was appointed editor of the Journal of Educational Leadership, Policy and Practice and since 2007 has been the co-editor of the Journal of Educational Administration and History.
