Scholarship Information

This scholarship is a component of the Victorian government’s Maths and Science Education Strategy, which aims to improve the quality of mathematics and science education, and to increase both student participation and engagement in these subjects. The government is committed to improving maths and science education for all Victorians, and recognises the vital role it plays in achieving the state’s social, economic, cultural and environmental goals for the future.

The Maths and Science Graduate Scholarship advertised in the press on the 1st September gives talented final year students and graduates with mathematics or science studies, the opportunity to commence their teaching careers. There will be 50 scholarships awarded annually over the next three years with grants of up to $9,000 available to recipients.

In the 2008 intake, the Maths and Science Graduate Scholarship will provide successful applicants with $5,000 to complete an approved graduate entry teaching course starting in 2008. After completing their studies, scholarship recipients will be eligible for additional grants on commencing employment in Victorian government secondary schools, as well as retention benefits after remaining employed with the Department for two years.
