Faculty of EducationOutside Studies ProgramApplications for Outside Studies Programs (OSP) to be taken during the year 2009 are now being called. As there is only one call for applications annually, requests for leave in first and/or second semester programs must be lodged in this round. Staff are reminded to submit their best and complete application. Submission of an incomplete application may jeopardise the success of an application as the committee will not return it for resubmission. The application form must be signed by the relevant Academic Director and recommended by the Dean prior to lodging it with the Secretary of the OSP Committee. Director should also comment on the proposed program and its potential benefit for and impact on the Faculty. The closing date for applications in the current round is Friday 11 April 2008. Applications received beyond the closing date will not be accepted. Applications for OSP will be considered by the Faculty OSP Committee which will meet in mid May with a subsequent meeting held in June if required. Applicants are notified in writing of the outcome of their application. Variation to approved programsAll variations to an approved program require approval. In some instances the approval can be granted from the Head of School but in situations where substantial changes are made to a program, approval is required from the Dean. In all instances staff must submit an 'Application to vary an OSP' form to the Committee. Planning an OSPStaff who intend to apply for a future OSP are encouraged to commence planning their program well in advance of the closing date. It is also important to consult the University OSP policy and the Education Faculty Guidelines to ensure that the eligibility requirements are met. Reporting requirements for staff returning from an OSPStaff returning from an OSP will be required to submit a report to the Committee within two months of returning from the program. Failure to submit a satisfactory report, within the specified timeframe, will result in Faculty Board recommending to the Dean that a future application for OSP not be considered and also request that all or part of the financial assistance provided to the staff member be refunded.
