Education, Faculty Human Ethics Committee

All research projects and teaching practical classes involving human participants require approval from an ethics committee. Applicants applying for ethics approval should, in the first instance, read the document Human Research Ethics Guidelines. This document together with the HEC/FHEC Application Form, and other relevant information can be accessed via the following links:

Forms and Guidelines

NOTE:

In order to determine whether you do require Human Ethics Approval and to assess which committee is appropriate for your application please check the recently updated La Trobe University Human Ethics Risk Assessment.

Submitting an ethics application form to the Education FHEC

When submitting an application to the Education FHEC you need to submit one copy including all attachments via email to educationethics@latrobe.edu.au and one hard copy including signatures of all investigators forwarded to the contact details below.

How to ensure there are no delays in the review and approval of an application

The Committee aims to have applications approved within a three week timeframe from the receipt of an application. However, in order for this turnaround time to be achieved it is essential that applications are complete when submitted. Incomplete applications slow down the process as they require further follow up with the applicant before they can be sent on for review. In some instances they may be returned for further revision and resubmission.

To avoid delays, when submitting an application, please ensure that:

  • All sections and questions have been answered and none are left blank, write N/A if necessary.
  • The document is signed by all investigators involved in the project.
  • All relevant supporting documentation is attached eg information sheets, consent forms, interview questions, questionnaires.
  • The information sheet and consent form is on La Trobe letterhead and the FHEC contact details for the Education FHEC are listed as below.
  • Respond promptly to the committee's request for further information/clarification following the review of an application.
  • The document Human Research Ethics Guidelines, provides guidelines and information to assist with the completion of the application form including the information sheet and consent form.
