We offer the Bachelor of Education (Primary/Secondary) from our Bendigo campus where students can specialise to teach in both primary and secondary schools and obtain qualifications in two teaching areas. This course provides the most up-to-date thoretical knowledge in education, along with a well regarded professional experience programs. This course equips students to teach in a range of primary and secondary schools.

Career opportunities

There is an increasing demand for teachers and educators. You are eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) and can seek employment nationally in both primary and secondary schools and may be able to apply to work in some countries overseas (subject to registration). Graduates may also find work in children's services, education leadership-related areas, government, private sector, media and service industries.

Course description
This course aims to prepare students for a career as generalist primary or secondary school teacher, with specialist areas (methods) in Student Welfare and either English or Mathematics. With a focus on student welfare, graduates are qualified to fulfil student wellbeing teaching roles in disadvantaged schools. They may also work in outreach and community education centres where educational expertise is required, including programs disengaged youth. In addition to school graduates, the course may appeal to mature-age applicants (over 21 years of age) who have working backgrounds in social work, youth welfare or educational environments.
Prerequisite
Units 3 & 4: study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English. Units 1 & 2: two units General Mathematics or Mathematical Methods or Units 3 & 4 Mathematics (any).
Extra requirements
Non-Year 12 applicants must complete and submit a VTAC Pi form if they wish other information to be considered during the selection process. This may include information such as work experience or reasons for applying. Applicants may wish to provide other documentation in support of their application. This course provides students with the most up-to-date theory and practical experiences in primary teaching and meets the necessary requirements for registration as a primary school teacher in Victoria. Students have the opportunity to increase their knowledge base and qualify to teach middle years up to Year 10 by taking an optional secondary teaching method. Coursework includes core professional studies in education, key curriculum areas, along with discipline studies and some electives.
