Brief profile

Charlie has an extensive teaching background that includes experience in the primary, secondary and adult disabilities sectors.  He spent over a decade coordinating a Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) alternative setting that provided intensive and specialized programs to middle-years students attending state funded schools.  Students referred to programs were often regarded by their schools as being at significant risk of educational disengagement.  Referred students were also often categorized as 'sitting' at the extreme end of the challenging behaviours spectrum.  Charlie lecturers in education (0.6) and is also employed as a specialist teacher by the DEECD (0.4).  His DEECD role continues to see Charlie working directly with small groups of referred young people attending state funded schools.  Charlie's teaching and research interests relate to educationally 'engaging the disengaged' amongst our youth.  His focus is supporting both pre-service and practicing teachers in the development of pedagogical approaches that are particulary effective with young people who dispaly significant challenging behaviours.
