Any applicant who achieves an ENTER of 68, or above, is guaranteed a Commonwealth Supported Place in this course. Applicants with an ENTER below 68 will be considered through normal merit selection processes.

When and how can I apply?

    Applications can be made on-line only, through VTAC, at www.vtac.edu.au   from 9.00 am Monday 4th August, 2008. Timely applications close 5.00pm Tuesday, 30th September 2008, although late applications (incurring a higher fee) may be submitted up until 5.00pm Friday 14th November 2008 and very late applications up until 5.00pm Friday 12th December 2008. Applications to transfer between tertiary courses are considered from within La Trobe University only and should be directed to the Course Administrator.

What do I put on the Pi (Personal Information) form?

    The Pi form provides you with the opportunity to explain why you wish to teach.  You can provide information that may explain past results that you do not think reflect your true capability eg: an illness, injury, death etc.  You can provide information that you think will help your application eg: gap years, work experience, relevant voluntary activities, non academic courses, references or contact number for references.  If there is not enough room on this form, information may be sent directly to the selection officer.

Internal University Transfer Applications

    Applications should be made by 30 September, 2008 directly with the Course Administrator.  Additional information may be provided with the application such as a reference (which is recommended).  Volunteer work is also recommended i.e. Work in schools, kindergartens, after school care, regular coaching of primary age students.
    Once University results are released, the selection officer will then make a decision on your application. You may be asked to an interview. It is recommended that you achieve a B grade average to be competitive. There is no guarantee of a place.

Advanced Standing

    Applications for Advanced Standing for previous studies should be made with the Course Administrator and are considered upon acceptance into the course.

Mature age Applicants

    IMPORTANT DATES
    Open Day - Sunday August 3, 2008
    An information evening for prospective Mature Age applicants
    is scheduled for 7.30pm, Thursday 14th August 2008

What is required for Mature Age entrance?

    Minimum tertiary entrance requirements (see above) or Special Tertiary Admissions Test results (see following).

Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
    • For some applicants who have not completed the VCE, or equivalent, it is a requirement that the STAT Written English test must be completed. This test assesses your ability to organise and express your thoughts in a logical and effective way, and consists of two short essays completed over a one hour period (Please note that the STAT Multiple Choice test is not sufficient for selection in this Course)
    • It is strongly recommended that you should register to sit the STAT when you lodge your VTAC application. Please refer to the VTAC Guide 2008, or visit the VTAC website for details, costs and closing dates for STAT registration.
    • La Trobe University Bendigo offers workshops (for a small fee) to assist in STAT preparation usually 2-3 weeks prior to the first sitting.
Who needs to sit a STAT?
    If you:
    • have not met the minimum tertiary entrance requirements (see above);
    • are applying as a Mature Age applicant through the Special Entry Access Scheme;
    • have satisfied the tertiary entrance requirements more than 3 years ago, but have not completed a semester of tertiary level studies in the last three years.
So you didn't get a university place in Education at Bendigo?
    • Repeat VCE.  Select subjects you like.  This can also be done through BRIT.
    • If offered another university course, consider taking this place and finish the 1st year.  Do as well as possible in your studies.  Aim for B grade average. If this was an LTU course you may then apply to transfer internally to the Bachelor of Education at LTU.
    • If you study at another University and wish to move to the Bachelor of Education at LTU, you will need to apply through VTAC.
    • Undertake a TAFE course at Certificate IV level.  Please note that this course needs to have graded results and not just pass/fail assessment.
    • Work experience with children eg: in schools, childcare, kindergartens, coaching (more than just own children).
    • If your ENTER is more than one year old you could sit the STAT test to improve your score.
    • Apply to undertake single units of study from within the Bachelor of Education course (fee paying - apply direct) and then re-apply through VTAC for following year.
