Brief profile

Shawn Leu joined the department of economics and finance in July 2004 and obtained his PhD from the University of Sydney in 2006. He has held visiting positions at the International Monetary Fund and Macquarie University.

His research interests are open economy macroeconomics, monetary economics, and international finance. In particular, he has examined the following issues: monetary policy transmission mechanism through a New Keynesian structural VAR model; the level of managed floating by constructing index measures of the exchange market pressure and intervention activities; asymmetry in monetary policy through non-linear Taylor rules; and building a state space model to estimate potential output and its normal growth rate, the natural rate of unemployment and interest.
