Brief Profile
John Kennedy was a research fellow working on a large scale programming model of Australian agriculture from 1972 to 1975 at the University of New England, Armidale, before taking up a lectureship at La Trobe. He was appointed reader and associate professor in 1988. His research interests are in the areas of resource, environmental and agricultural economics. He has applied various techniques for aiding decision-making in these areas, such as cost-benefit analysis, non-market valuation and dynamic optimisation under uncertainty. He was President of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society in 1994, and from 1994 to 1996 was joint editor of the Australian Journal of Agricultural Economics. John was project leader of the project “Maximising the Economic Benefits to Pacific Island Nations from Management of Migratory Tuna Stocks” funded by ACIAR (Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research). The project that ran from the start of 2002 to the end of 2007, with La Trobe University as the Commissioned Organisation, and the University of Queensland, the Forum Fisheries Agency and the Oceanic Fisheries Programme of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community as Collaborating Institutions.
