  • Active Directory (AD)
As a La Trobe staff member you will be granted a computer account that will enable you to access a number of IT facilities. This is called an Active Directory (AD) account.
Your Active Directory account is your main La Trobe login, it is used for systems such as email, ESS, WebCT, etc.
    For security reasons, passwords expire every 90 days, with the previous 12 passwords remembered. Passwords must be a minmum of 8 chargacters and contain at least 3 0f the 4 types of characters (Capital - A, B, C, Lower - a, b, c, Number - 1, 2, 3, Non alpha/numberic !, @, #, $).
Please visit our web page for information on how to change your password.
  • ESS (Employment Self Service)

ESS is a method of viewing, printing and/or updating HR or payroll information, by the employee that does not require approval. For example:

    • Fortnightly payslip
    • Personal details
    • Address details
    • Leave entitlements
    • Bank details
    • Tax details
  • PCMS (Purchasing Card Management System)
The PCMS is a web-based software package that enables purchasing card transactions to be electronically transferred from Visa/Westpac to the University.
  • Reset Password Tool
La Trobe University has provided an online utility for both staff and students to change their own Active Directory passwords. DSSG highly recommend that you Register to Reset your Password and use this tool if you forget your Active Directory Password.
  • SAP (Systems, Applications, Products in Data Processing)
SAP is the software solution that has been chosen by La Trobe University to provide a fully integrated finance and human resources system.
  • SIS (Student Information System)
Callista is the web browser-based software used for La Trobe University's student system.
  • WebCT (Web Course Tools)

WebCT is La Trobe University's preferred method to place teaching material online.

    Information for Macintosh Users
WebCT themselves, have tested and validated various versions of Macintosh web browsers against several versions of WebCT. Here's a table of their recommendations.
Mozilla, Safari and Firefox as supplied in Macintosh Labs on campus all work with WebCT. Internet Explorer is known to be problematic, therefore DSSG do not recommend using it.
