Purchasing new computers & equipment

Purchasing a Macintosh computer

Although La Trobe does not have a Standard Operating Environment for Apple computers, the application set is intended to be consistent. To purchase a Macintosh computer, please contact the Macintosh Administrator

 

Purchasing a Windows computer

All new Windows computers must adhere to the Standard Operating Environment(SOE). The Standard Operating Environment for personal computers is a hardware and software specification suitable for La Trobe University. It was developed by experts from all Faculties of the University and agreed to by all Faculties and Administration. It is now a policy of the University that all windows computer purchases adhere to the SOE.

if you are wanting to have alterations made to this SOE, please contact Desktop Systems Support Group and they will discuss the options with you.

Procedures for ordering a new Windows computer
  • Visit the website for the Standard Operating Environment to ensure that the configurations are suited to your requirements.
  • Contact DSSG either by email or phone x7722 and discuss your requirements.
  • DSSG will then supply you with a quote for your computer which includes a reference code
  • Fill in a Purchase / Service Authority which needs to be authorised by a Budgetary authority and forwarded to DSSG for processing

Purchasing Computer Equipment
Generally, all IT purchases are made through the Desktop Systems Support Group (DSSG).

Laser Printers

Please contact Desktop Systems Support Group either by email or phone x7722 with your requirements and they will make a recommendation. You will then need to fill in a Purchase / Service Authority which needs to be authorised by a Budgetary authority and forwarded to DSSG for processing.

Computer peripherals (ie. USB Flash Drives, etc)

Please contact Desktop Systems Support Group either by email or phone x7722 with your requirements and they will make a recommendation. You will then need to fill in a Purchase / Service Authority which needs to be authorised by a Budgetary authority and forwarded to DSSG for processing.

Inkjet printers

Not supplied by DSSG, please organise your own supply

Fax Machines

Not supplied by DSSG, please organise your own supply

CDs, DVDs, Floppy Disks, etc

Not supplied by DSSG, please organise your own supply
