Mapping a Network Drive

These instructions are to map a drive to a server using your username and password you use to log in to the computer with.

  1. Right click on My Network Places either on the Desktop or in the Start Menu and select Map Network Drive


  2. Select the Drive letter you wish to use for the network drive e.g. H:


  3. Type the path for the folder you wish to connect to in the Folder field e.g. \\benshesvr\tpetrie$ where benshesvr is the name of the server and tpetrie$ is the name of the shared folder
    If you would like the connection to be restored every time Windows starts tick the Reconnect at logon option.


  4. If you are connecting from home over a VPN connection you will need to click on connect using a different username and enter your username and password as per below and then click on OK.


  5. When you click Finish the Network Drive will be mapped and should be visible in My Computer.
