How to change your Active Directory password

For security reasons, passwords expire every 90 days, with the previous 12 passwords not available for re-use. Passwords must be:

  • a minimum of 8 characters
  • contain at least 3 of the 4 types of characters (Capital - A, B, C, Lower - a, b, c, Number - 1, 2, 3, Non alpha/numeric !, @, #, $).

Passwords should not:

  • be based on personal information. E.g. name, nickname, birthday, relatives’ names etc…
  • use your login name in any form. This includes backwards, doubled, capitalized, etc.
  • passwords that are easily spotted when typing. Sequential keys on the keyboard, like: qwerty, mnbvcx or 123456 and so on are easy for people looking over your shoulder to recognise.
  • contain common misspelling and substitution in your password (e.g. replacing ‘’e’’ with ‘’3’’ or ‘’i’’ with ‘’1’’)
If your password has expired
  1. If your computer is joined to the LTU domain, try logging off and when you next log in you should be prompted to change your password.
  2. For Macintosh users not joined to the domain, connect to Clement (that's the "LTU Windows Stuff" icon in your dock next to the Trash). When you log in to Clement, you will be notifed that you password has expired and will insist you change it. Do so, then log off from Clement and then you should be right.
