Centre for Dialogue

The Centre is a major initiative of La Trobe University. It is an interdisciplinary, research-based, policy-driven, and educationally minded institution that is also active in establishing an international network of like-minded institutions. The Centre is particularly interested in hosting visiting researchers who wish to pursue research in the following areas:

  • normative approaches to dialogue and co-operation across cultures, religions and civilizations
  • understanding and mitigating conflict within and across national boundaries
  • dialogue across political, economic, and cultural perspectives within the context of a globalizing world
  • interdisciplinary research into relationships between diverse cultures, religions, ethnicities and
  • civilizations, both historically and in a contemporary setting
  • pedagogical approaches that promote intercultural dialogue
  • dialogue and the challenges posed for regional and global governance
  • the role of religion in contemporary international relations.

Benefits

In addition to the benefits associated with the relevant government awards, engagement with the Centre means close association with staff – from the Centre and from the School of Social Sciences – specializing in intercultural relations, international relations theory, international political economy, security studies, foreign policy, conflict resolution, worldwide labour relations, international organization, international law, and global governance.

Such engagement provides access to leading scholars from around the world presenting research in the Centre's workshops and seminars. Importantly, the Centre can assist those seeking to publish their research by producing and promoting working papers in fields related to the Centre's interests.

Visiting Fellows will also gain access to the Centre for Dialogue's extensive international network of leading intellectuals, scholars, policy makers, and like-minded organizations.

Importantly, association with the Centre entails office space with a networked computer, a generous photocopying allowance, privileged library borrowing access, access to email and postal services.
