Negotiating the Naga nation: Six Decades of Deadlock

Dr Namrata Goswami, Associate Fellow at the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses
Visiting Research Fellow, Centre for Dialogue

Wednesday 22 July 2009

Dr Goswami, Associate Fellow at the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses, Delhi, India, was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre for Dialogue from April till August 2009. Dr Goswami has published two books and several articles covering ethnic conflicts and their resolution in the South Asian context.

In this seminar Dr Goswami identified the different phases of North East India’s Naga ethnic conflict and the peace negotiations undertaken from 1946 to the present. She pointed out the areas of deadlock in the peace process and indicated possible avenues for future action. The seminar was particularly rich due to Dr Goswami’s own experience as a facilitator in the Naga ethnic conflict.

This was the second seminar in a two-part seminar series by Dr Goswami about the role of dialogue in the Naga conflict.
