UNDERGRADUATE COURSES

The core programs of the Department of Environmental Management & Ecology are the:

Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management & Ecology. This three-year course is designed to provide training in both environmental management and ecology, and is undertaken against the background of the Murray-Darling River Basin. A wide range of environmental and ecological issues is covered, including wastewater treatment and disposal, water and air quality, population ecology, community ecology, environmental policy and legislation, environmental assessment, conservation ecology, forest water and agricultural resources, wildlife and fisheries management and soil science. A further year of study at honours level is available within the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management & Ecology (Honours). This course is 1 year full time and assessment is based on assignments, presentations and a thesis. Please refer to the listing of research interests of staff members within the Department to assist in determining possible research areas.

Bachelor of Biological Sciences (students must transfer to the Bundoora campus (Melbourne) to complete the second and third years of this degree.)

First year studies are also offered in the Bachelor of Science, and the Bachelor of Science/ Bachelor of Science Education.

POSTGRADUATE COURSES

The Postgraduate Diploma in Science is available to students who have completed a bachelor degree but who do not qualify to enter the Environmental Management and Ecology Honours program. This course is 1 year full time and assessment is based on assignments, presentations and a thesis. Please refer to the listing of research interests of staff members within the Department to assist in determining possible research areas.

Research leading to the degrees of Master of Science (2 year full-time) or Doctor of Philosophy (3 years full time) may be carried out under the supervision of staff in the Department. Please refer to the research interests of staff members in the Department for available research areas.
Applicants for Doctoral candidature should already hold a Masters degree or have completed an Honours Bachelor degree at a very high level of achievement.
Applicants for Masters by Research candidature are usually required to have completed an Honours degree or Masters Preliminary.
Applications for candidature are welcome all year. The closing date for applications for scholarships is 31 October for Australian and New Zealand citizens and 30 September for overseas applicants.
