Curriculum, Teaching and Learning Colloquium

This year's Colloquium will focus on two main themes - Curriculum Design & Evaluation and Student Experience. We will learn about the progress of the Design for Learning Project, including the ten curriculum pilot projects and the four working groups. Other highlights of the program confirmed will be a student panel looking at their experiences of first year at La Trobe and the Vice-Chancellor's Award.

Dr Big Shoulders Tackles the Design for Learning

A scenario will be presented in which a teaching staff member who has not been engaged in the development and planning of the University’s Design for Learning (DfL), considers the challenge of implementing some of the proposed recommendations. In particular, the alignment of assessment requirements and issues of academic integrity and graduate capabilities will be explored. Participants can expect to participate in collaborative problem-solving activities in order to help the overloaded academic find harmony with DfL.

The journey towards implementing a new curriculum

This workshop will consider the policy, administrative, academic management, and infrastructure dimensions related to implementing curriculum change. It will be of particular interest to those involved with designing and implementing new curricula or programs in their Faculty. Participants consider their own curriculum renewal and redesign projects during the workshop.

Writing SMARTER Learning Outcomes for subjects and courses: A relatively quick and painless approach

This three-hour workshop will provide you with one simple, practical approach to writing SMARTER intended learning outcomes (ILOs) for your courses and/or subjects. [SMARTER is simply an acronym for Standards-based; Measurable; Appropriately aligned; Research-informed; Taxonomised; Equitable and Relevant]. This approach is consistent with the Design for Learning curriculum development principles and guidelines and makes use of John Biggs’ SOLO Taxonomy and Benjamin Bloom’s (revised) Taxonomy of Cognitive Outcomes.
