Intended learning outcomes
Intended Learning Outcomes [ILOs] are simply statements of what students are expected to demonstrate they know and/or are able to do by the end of a course or a subject at a defined standard of quality.
DfL requires all Bachelor courses to identify the Course ILOs (CILOs) and standards of learning for their courses – and then redesign and align the ILOs in the component subjects to ensure that students are able to achieve those course outcomes at an agreed standard prior to graduation. This process is not exclusive of the curriculum content but is something that should be developed concurrently.
By the end of 2013, Faculties will have defined:
- Course Intended Learning Outcomes [CILOs] for each Bachelor-level course in every major; and,
- Subject Intended Learning Outcomes [SILOs] for each subject that involves FGCs in each Bachelor-level course.
