In research the CSSI draws from the disciplines of organisational behaviour, management, marketing, economics, law, sociology and public policy to investigate issues that reflect the role of sport management under four major themes.

Impact of sport on health and wellbeing

Assessing the impact of sport participation and consumption on the health and wellbeing of people and their communities 

Sport policy and program evaluation

Assessing the impact of government policies on sporting organisations, individuals and their communities. Areas of interest include preventative health, social inclusion, community development, physical education, gambling and media regulation.

Capacity and performance of sport organisations 

Studying organisational behaviour and management of sport organisations in how they meet their goals and includes corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, performance and capacity.

Membership, marketing and branding of sport

Understanding the interrelationship between marketing, membership and branding to improve participation, encourage engagement and build capacity.
