Renewable Energy and Regional Australia: Creating Local Economic Development Opportunities

In response to the growing impact of climate change and increased pressure to identify alternatives to conventional energy sources, the City of Greater Bendigo and LaTrobe University Bendigo formed a partnership to present a conference aimed at defining the renewable energy challenge for regional Australia and highlighting the opportunities and solutions in this developing industry.

The conference presentations addressed questions such as:

• What are the most likely sources of renewable energy for regional Australia?
• What is the state of development of these different sources?
• How accessible are these energy sources to people in regional Australia?
• What needs to happen to make them readily available? and
• What can regional communities do to assure their access to renewable energy?
