Research - ScholarshipsDepartment of Computer Science & Computer EngineeringThere are three main categories of scholarships available at the University, the Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) funded by DETYA, open to Australian citizens or Permanent Residents who have resided in Australia continuously for the 12 months prior to the closing date for applications, the La Trobe University Postgraduate Research Scholarships (LTUPRS) funded by the University and open to Australian and international candidates and International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS). Candidates with a first class honours or equivalent degree or with research experience deemed to be equivalent to such a degree are eligible to apply for these scholarships. The application deadline is the 30th of September for the International students and 31st of October for the local students for the following year. Scholarships are generally only available to full-time candidates, although individual cases will be considered for part-time APA and LTUPRS in cases of heavy care commitments or a medical condition precluding full-time study (this is applicable only to local students). International Postgraduate Rresearch Scholarships (IPRS) is a tution fee scholarship. The purpose of the IPRS program is to attract top quality overseas postgraduate students to areas of research strength which support Australia's research effort. Periods of study already undertaken towards the degree prior to commencement of the award will be deducted from the maximum period of tenure of the award. The value of scholarships is announced each year by the Research and Graduate Studies Office. Full-time scholarships provide an allowance which is currently tax exempt. Duration of Scholarships: The APA and LTUPRS are provided for a period of 2 years for Masters degrees and 3 years for doctoral degrees. No extensions are given for Masters degrees and a maximum extension of 6 months may be possible at doctoral level depending on the circumstances.
