The internet, in times of high demand can suffer a phenomenon known as congestive collapse. This study is an effort to develop an understanding of the causes of transient network load, and developing techniques to deal with its effects. This study incorporates such technologies as Web servers, dynamically generated and managed internet content, web page structure, network routing policies (at the network and application layer), TCP and TTCP, the introduction of peer-to-peer philosophy into traditionally HTTP and IEEE content distribution networks (CDNs).
