Description:
It is inevitable that future system developments will depend more on component based software (CBS). The size and complexity of systems are ever growing, thus making them not feasible to develop from scratch. With the availability of wide array of components providing a rich functionality, it is becoming more and more common to use CBS in all major software developments. However, due to its inherited nature of depending on someone else, the components, the CBS development is always vulnerable to a greater uncertainty. One of the key reasons behind the failed CBS projects is that it is often too late to correct the budgetary, quality and schedule problems by the time they are detected. This clearly indicates the need of the early assessment of their potential development risks. Generally, measurement of software is difficult as there is no physical existence in the development phase. Further, many software metrics have been proposed mainly for traditional software process but not for measuring the software entities at different stages of the integration centric CBS development process. This makes the risk assessment of CBS development even more difficult and challenging. This research aims to design an early warning risk assessment model for CBS development with the use of both traditional and specifically defined set of software metrics. |
