Course: PhD
Research Title/Topic: The Application of Complex AI to Real Time Games
Supervisor: Dr. John Rankin and Assoc. Prof. Karl Reed
Description:
While the development of Intelligent AI has been a critical area of research, the development of AI in computer games has remained vastly untouched, with Computer Game development focusing much more development time on graphics and game detail. While the focus of my research is on First Person Shooter (FPS) games, there are unavoidable and important overlaps with many other genres of games. One of the key roles of AI within a game is to support the players’ immersion within the game, making it believable and interesting to play. This research is looking at how AI can be used to support the players ‘Suspension of Disbelief’ to make their gaming more immersive and engaging. I am looking at types of AI, hardware limitations, and different applications of AI with a game environment.
