Research Title/Topic: An Object-Oriented Approach on Web Information Representation and Derivation
Supervisor: Dr. Fei Liu & Dr. Jinli Cao
Description:
The PhD project aims to establish the framework for web information representation, extraction and reasoning using an object-oriented approach. A structure, which is similar to a class in object-oriented design and programming, is defined as an estended class (eclass). The eclass is the fundamental uni in representing metadata which consists of data attributes, member functions, inference rules and presentations, and therefore, facilities both web presentation and information reasoning. As an object-oriented approach, the framework also supports encapsulation, polymorphism and inheritance. An eclass can be extremely effective in content-dependent entity description. It describes a set of values under their cotnext; consequently, the search engine not only searches the value, but also obtains the meaning associated with the value in the context. This can be a major step in the derivation of the ontology to achieve information sharing.
