Description:
Paul Conilione received his MSc in computer science from La Trobe University in 2006 under the supervision of A/Prof Justin Wang.
The PhD research aims to develop a robust and efficient face-image retrieval system. Face-image retrieval aims to find face images that are stored in a database which meet a user’s query. The query can be a picture of a face, sketch or a verbal description of the face appearance. This is challenging given the faces can appear different depending on lighting, pose, rotation, occlusion (obscured by objects) and the environment.
However, a robust and efficient face-image retrieval system is valuable for finding possible suspects in law enforcement, looking for suitable actors/models to fill a particular role in the entertainment industry, or to allow someone to search their personal image collections for friends and family.
