Research Title/Topic: Network Architecture for Virtual Environments
Supervisor: Dr. Somnath Ghosh & Dr John Rankin
Description:
Most communication architectures route messages from a source node to one or more destination nodes based on address fields specified in the message header. Content-based networks are differentiated as the messages are routed to one or more destination nodes based on the contents of the message. This research project will focus on using content-based network to manage distributed data for virtual environments (VEs). VEs such as games and simulations require higher performance than existing content-based network solutions can provide. Existing solutions also assume that each message is independent of other messages which is not the case in the VE domain. The challenges for this project will be providing a scalable network software architecture for games that is easy to develop and deploy.
