Research Title/Topic: Mobile Banking Security over 4G Wireless Networks
Supervisor: Dr Prakash Veeraraghavan and Dr. Naveen Chilamkurti
Description:
Mobile Banking is the recent trend in banking by utilizing mobile cell phones to gain access to bank account information online. Transactions such as payment of bills, transfer of money, and checking credit card balance performed through this new type of E-Banking. The problem with M-Banking may be similar to the problems that E-Banking faces. Hacking and unauthorized retrieval of bank account information may also be possible with M-Banking. The freedom of choice of banks and mobile operator is one of the major barriers that M-Banking has to overcome. Flexibility in choices may be limited with M-Banking for now though no one can really know that the future holds for this type of banking especially with the next network generation (4G). My research aims at looking closer into flexibility of M-Banking in terms of security. M-Banking is one of the more popular directions of banking business in the future because of the increased usage of mobile phones and its availability to a vast number of people almost around the globe. Since this is the future direction of banking, it is important to study the security issues facing it as the idea of this type of banking becomes more and more prominent and as technology permits this type of banking.
