Description:
Ontology based services are widely used today. It is common that the services based from different domain ontologies need to cooperate to provide functionalities to the users. The different domain ontologies need to be linked so that they can be viewed as a single ontology on which the functions will be based. Ontology merging technique can be used, but it has some drawbacks. First, the size of the ontology as the result of the merging will be very big and this will decrease the response time. Second, most parts of the merged ontology are not relevant to the processes needed by the users.
Ontology view seems to be a better solution for the linkage need. Sub ontology that is relevant to the user functionality will be found from each domain. Then, the communication method to link the sub ontologies must be established so that they can view each other. The process should be invisible to the users. As the result, user functionality can be improved. This method will be applied to a case study related to health informatics. |
