Research Title/Topic: Context Aware, Messaging and Addressing
Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Seng Loke and Dr Torab Torabi
Description:
We aim to investigate, design and realize an extensible context aware messaging and addressing system for the mobile platform. We will investigate the architecture and context models required for efficient and expressive messaging and addressing. For example, in a bush fire setting, an affected resident should be able to send a warning message to everyone in the “neighborhood” in an efficient way – in this case study, research questions arise as to how to precisely define and model the notion of “neighborhood” using appropriate context information, and how addressing can be scoped. There is also a notion of robust delivery of messages in such settings that need to be developed – how can context information be employed to improve the robustness of mission-critical messaging? Another case study for our system is inter-vehicle messaging, but using wide-area networking and context – how can mission-critical messaging be employed with highly mobile nodes whose contexts change rapidly? Also, how can the system be robust to change (e.g., inhabitants and the “shape” of a neighborhood might change over time) and be extensible to allow users to specify new scopes for messaging (e.g., some subset of the “neighborhood”)?
