Business Continuity and Resilience Planning (BCARP) is a strategy in developing Business Process Models which minimize the effect of disturbances and allow for resumption and maintenance of business processes. The aim of BCARP is to minimize the effects of a disruptive event on a company. The current situation indicates that organizations are shifting their focus from Business Continuity Planning to Resilience. Resilience is defined as the capacity for individuals, communities and business to be able to adapt and continuously evolve to the challenges we face in our rapidly changing society. In other words, resilience is the capacity for individuals and organizations to recover from "shock" in the sense of the "incapacitation" (or changes in the functional requirement or the capabilities) of some "node" in a process and to adapt with new strategies (or the application of existing strategies) and to establish a new equilibrium. A step-by-step method capable of designing business process that has specified levels of continuity is currently missing. As a result, organizations adopting current Business Continuity Planning design processes will produce different results in their business continuity strategies. In addition, certification for insurance and other purposes is somewhat imprecise, and can be difficult to assess at the process design stage. My research will focus on developing a prescriptive methodology (step-by-step methods) for designing resilience conformant business continuity processes and to demonstrate this using a case study drawn from an operational process used in higher education and other institutions. The approach will draw on existing process modeling.
