Research Title/Topic: Searching Meaningful Entities over XML Data Source for Keyword Queries
Supervisor: Dr. Jinli Cao & Assoc. Prof. Wenny Rahayu
Description:
Keyword search is a proven user-friendly way of querying HTML documents and text data on the Web. With XML becomes the standard in representing, publishing and exchanging data over the Internet, it is natural and desirable to support keyword search for XML data sources. Several reasons exist: (1) users can easily access XML data without the need to learn a structured query; (2) users do not need to study possibly complex data schemas; and (3) sometimes, users do not know the underlying XML schemas at all, which is especially true when the queries are issued to huge number of heterogeneous XML data sources. However, an XML document is semantically richer than an HTML document; traditional keyword search techniques cannot take advantage of this rich semantic information and consequently may not be able to return precise results users expected. The aims of this research are to develop effective methods and efficient algorithms for searching meaningful entities in XML data sources by keyword queries.
