Department of Computer Science & Computer Engineering

The Department is widely acknowledged as having one of the best research performances in Australia. This was endorsed by the Journal of Systems and Software, which ranked La Trobe University within the top 10 universities in the world for systems and software research publications two years in a row.

Research degrees provide a thorough training in a chosen area of study in research techniques and methods and result in a piece of original research presented by means of a thesis. Strong emphasis is placed on publications in the best journals and leading international conferences. The Department participates in a number of collaborative research projects with government departments and industry partners and receives large research grants. We continue to provide financial assistance to a substantial number of people to enable them to carry out their research. Over the years, the Department has produced a large number of Ph.D. graduates: comparatively high among Australian Universities. Graduates of our department are now on the faculties of universities around the world.
