Admission:

Q. What are the entry requirements for an admission to a course offered in your Department?
A. Entry requirement varies between undergraduate and postgraduate courses. International students applying for entry to an undergraduate course must hold qualifications which are deemed equivalent to an Australian Year 12 High School Certificate. Students applying for a postgraduate coursework or research degree must hold an Australian equivalent undergraduate, honours or postgraduate qualification from a recognised University.
Q. Do I need to take English tests such as TOFEL or IELTS?
A. Yes. For IELTS a minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0. For TOFEL, a minimum score of 575 with a score of 5 or better in the test of written english.
Q. Can I apply for credit to my previous studies?
A. Applicants who have studies at tertiary level elsewhere may be eligible for credits. Credit arrengements are dependent on the specific studies already completed and course in which you enrol.
Q. Can I enroll for a double degree? Are there any restrictions?
A. No, there are no restrictions, provided you have the qualifications.

Q. Where is La Trobe University?
A. La Trobe University's Bundoora campus is situated in Melbourne's leafy north-east, only 14 kilometres from the centre of the city.
Q. Is La Trobe a public university?
A. Yes, it is a public university funded by the Federal Government.
Q. How big is your Department?
A. The Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering is one of the biggest departments within the La Trobe University.
Q. What is the diversity of students in your Department?
A. Our students come from many parts around the state and world.
Q. Are your staff members accessible?
A. We have committed staff members who are always willing to help students.
Q. How big are classes?
A. In an article published in the Age newspaper, La Trobe had less number of students to a staff compared to other universities across Australia.
Q. Is there any opportunity to go as an exchange student while I study at La Trobe?
A. Yes, you are eligible to go as an exchange student to other universities outside Australia
Q. Is there any Industry based project involved in any of your courses?
A. As part of the undergraduate program students are required to do an industry-sponsored project in their third year.
Q. Is there an honours program? How does it work?
A. Yes, we do offer Honours program for each degree course. Entry to the Honours program is commonly by invitation only.
Q. Are your courses internationally recognised?
A. All our courses are internationally recognised and number of our students are currently working across many continents.
Q. What is the starting dates?
A. Courses at La Trobe usually starts at Feburary and July each year.

Student Life:

Q. How easy is it to get around the campus?
A. Our Bundoora campus is a public transport hub. There are trams and buses from the city and car parking is available for a small annual fee.
Q. Do I have to travel to attend classes?
A. No. It is easy to walk from one class room to another.
Q. How safe is your campus?
A. Our Bundoora campus is one of the safest campus in Victoria. The labs are accesible 24/7 and are monitored by security throughout this period.
Q. Is there any clubs and societies?
A. There are a huge number of clubs and societies available for students access.
Q. What are the parking arrangements if I intend to travel by car?
A. We have number of large parking space available for students and staff for a small annual fee.
Q. Is your campus socially friendly?
A. Yes. As students come from different cultural background, we respect and help each other.
Q. Is there any support for find casual jobs?
A. We have employment services which assists students getting part-time jobs.
Q. What other support facilities available to international students?
A. Accomodation assistance, language and academic support, sports and recreation facilities etc.

Accommodation:

Q. How do I find about the accommodation?
A. You can contact our Accommodation Services and Financial Sservices on 9479 2053 for any assistance.
Q. Is there any on campus accommodation facilities?
A. There are three on campus residential colleges for students. Two of the colleges with self catering and other with breakfast and dinner facilities.
Q. What are the hall of residence like?
A. The residential colleges within the campus have extensive facilities, including computer labs, libraries and recreational rooms and provide serviced study-bedrooms.
Q. Is food included with the accommodation?
A. Glenn College is the only college which provides breakfast and dinner.
Q. Can I live off campus?
A. There are lots of off campus accommodation available near to the campus. Please ask our Accommodation Services and Financial Services for more details.
Q. If yes, can the university help finding off campus accommodation?
A. Yes. our Accommodation Services and Financial Services can assist you.
Q. What will be the average living cost?
A. On average you need A$800 - A$1000 for a month for rent, food and other expenses

Visa Procedure:

Q. How do I apply for student visa?
A. Please contact our International Programs Office at http://www.latrobe.edu.au/international for further details.
Q. How much time it takes to get student visa?
A. Depending on the information you provide along with your application form.
Q. Can I work during studies?
A. International students are eligible to work 20 hours a week.
Q. Do I need to get a separate visa to work during my studies?
A. You can apply for a work visa once you commence your studies.
Q. Can I work or stay in Australia after I complete my studies?
A. You have to obtain seperate visas to study further and to work.
