Why study Visual Arts?
The Honours program in Visual Arts allows graduates to explore a specific genre of Visual Arts and fosters independent artistic inquiry through practice, theory and research. An honours degree can qualify you for further postgraduate study and Masters and PhD level and is ideal preparation for employment in the visual arts sector.

Curatorship, commercial and public galleries, arts administration, community arts programs, photojournalism, web design and colour and interior design, practicing exhibiting artist, education, and art therapy.

Coursework
Two coursework compulsory subjects at 120 credit points.
VPA4SP Studio Practice (Semester 1&2)
VPA4RVA Research – Visual Art (Semester 1&2)
Research degrees
Research based practice in studio art and advanced theoretical studies with an emphasis in the interconnectedness of theory and practice.
Entry requirements
On recommendation from the Honours Selection Panel, you can apply for entry to honours following completion of the degree. You are expected to have an average mark of 70%, preferably with 80% or higher within your chosen discipline or major area of studio study.
How to apply
If you are interested in undertaking an honours year in Visual Arts you should:
- Discuss ideas for a thesis topic with your lecturers and tutors
- Secure the agreement of a supervisor
- Apply in writing for admission by the first Monday in November in the year prior to starting Honours. Your letter should include:

- Write a 200-300 word abstract of your thesis research topic (this is not binding)
- Statement of results
- If you wish to complete the course part-time or full-time
