Choose Master of Telecommunication and Network Engineering at La Trobe

Communication and network technologies have evolved rapidly in recent years, and our Master of Telecommunication and Network Engineering is designed to give you the knowledge and practical experience necessary to meet industry challenges.

Our course focuses on computer, internet, multimedia and telecommunication technology, from high-level specification of telecommunications systems through to the realisation of communication circuits.

First-year core subjects introduce you to fundamental areas such as broadband digital communication, engineering practice and communication networks. In second year, you'll move into advanced topics including personal mobile communications, antennas and propagation, and current experimental practices in electronics and telecommunications. A core subject is the design exercise, which involves using state-of-the-art software to design telecommunication, mobile and electronic systems.

At La Trobe, you’ll have access to state of the art equipment and work spaces, giving you the best possible platform for success. You’ll learn to use software tools and programming languages such as Matlab, Embedded C and integrated development environments (IDEs). You’ll work in industry recognised design suites. You’ll use a range of laboratory equipment, such as power supplies, signal generators, PCs, development boards, digital storage oscilloscopes and spectrum analysers. All in preparation for real-world experiences.

You can study our course for two years full-time or four years part-time at our Melbourne Campus.

Prerequisites:
A four-year Bachelor of Engineering degree or international equivalent, in electronic engineering, computer engineering or communication/telecommunication engineering, or a four-year (Honours) degree in an appropriate field, or equivalent. Applicants with a three-year Bachelor of Science (in an appropriate field), or Bachelor of Engineering degree in another field, may also be considered for admission following the successful completion of the Graduate Diploma in Electronic Engineering. Enrolment in this program is subject to approval from the course coordinator. NB: Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.
