Secondary teaching

Why study Secondary teaching?

We offer the Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary), the Bachelor of Education (primary/secondary specialisation) as well as specialised programs that combine secondary teaching with physical education, outdoor education, community and outreach education, health, arts/humanities or science. You will become a specialist in two areas of the school curriculum and may choose any two teaching methods we offer.  Gain skills in planning, teaching and observing the development and learning of children, teamwork and working with parents.

In first year, you experience three different educational settings. We encourage you to receive credit towards a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to include VET in Schools as a career opportunity. All students take a literacy subject to give them the skills identified as crucial by the government.

Career opportunities

There is an increasing demand for teachers and educators. You are eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) and can seek employment nationally and overseas (subject to registration). Graduates may also find work in children's services, education leadership-related areas, government, private sector, media and service industries.
