We offer the Bachelor of Education (Primary/Secondary) from our Bendigo campus where students can specialise to teach in both primary and secondary schools and obtain qualifications in two teaching areas. This course provides the most up-to-date theoretical knowledge in education, along with a well regarded professional experience programs. This course equips students to teach in a range of primary and secondary schools.

Career opportunities

There is an increasing demand for teachers and educators. You are eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) and can seek employment nationally in both primary and secondary schools and may be able to apply to work in some countries overseas (subject to registration). Graduates may also find work in children's services, education leadership-related areas, government, private sector, media and service industries.

Course description
To be able to legally teach in Victorian schools, students must do a course that makes them eligible for teacher registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). This course aims to give students the qualification necessary to register with VIT and teach in primary and secondary schools, with an extra option for a qualification in special education. Graduates are highly respected in Australia and internationally for their detailed knowledge of curriculum and highly developed teaching skills.
Prerequisite
VCE Units 3 & 4: study score of at least 30 in English (ESL), or 25 in any other English.
Units 1 & 2: two units General Mathematics or Mathematical Methods, or Units 3 & 4 Mathematics (any).
Year 12 and non-year 12 extra requirements
Guaranteed Entry - Year 12 applicants only. Applicants with an ATAR of 68 or more will be made a first round offer. Applicants whose ATAR is below 68 will be considered for a Commonwealth Supported Place through normal selection processes.

Non-Year 12 selection may involve: ENTER/ATAR, VTAC Personal History online, GPA, STAT Multiple Choice.

Non-Year 12 applicants must complete and submit a VTAC Personal History online if they wish other information to be considered during the selection process. This may include information such as work experience or reasons for applying. Applicants may wish to provide other documentation in support of their application.

Middle band
A study score of at least 20 in LOTE (any) facilitates up to 3 additional aggregate points. Relevant paid or unpaid work experience is also considered, as is performance in English (any). Consideration is also given to Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) criteria; and a regional bonus may apply.

A course aimed mainly at people interested in careers in primary and/or secondary school teaching with a focus on student wellbeing. This course enables students to study secondary teaching specialist areas (methods) in student wellbeing, and one of either English, mathematics, science, English as a Second Language (ESL) or drama. Graduates are qualified to fulfil student wellbeing teaching roles in schools. They may also work in outreach and community education centres where educational expertise is required, including programs for disengaged youth. In addition to school-leaver applicants, this course may appeal to mature-age applicants (over 21) with a background in social work, youth welfare or educational environments.

This course aims to qualify students to teach in both primary and secondary schools, combining studies in primary education with specialist studies in physical and health education, and social work (student welfare). Each year, students undertake education and discipline studies and are required to undertake a minimum of 80 days' professional experience in both primary and secondary schools. They may also undertake field experience in a community setting.

For those seeking to gain an initial teaching qualification, this is a professional-entry teacher training course. The Victorian Institute of Teaching has approved this teacher education course for teacher registration, which is a prerequisite for employment as a school teacher in Victoria.
Prerequisite
Units 1 and 2 - two units (any study combination) of general mathematics or mathematical methods (CAS) or Units 3 and 4 mathematics (any). Units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English.
Year 12 and non-year 12 extra requirements
Guaranteed Entry (Year 12 applicants only): applicants with an ATAR of 80 or above will receive a first-round offer; those with lower ATARs are considered through normal selection processes.
