Midwifery

midwife and babyWhy do research in Midwifery?

La Trobe University is a leader in nursing and midwifery research. We conduct systematic reviews, including Cochrane collaborations published with international co-authorship. We inform subsequent studies (including large randomised controlled trials) providing an evidence base that is directly applicable to health policy, professional practice and health care delivery.

We also have a strong thread of empirical methodological and theoretical scholarship.

Several areas stand out in our research including:

  • Mother and child health
  • Nursing home and aged care
  • Cancer, palliative and end-of-life care
  • Nursing workforce issues
