Why study Middle years teaching?
We offer the Graduate Diploma (Middle Years) degree for those wanting to specialise in educating the middle years (Years 5 to 10) in schools. This course is offered flexibly from our Shepparton campus and enables you to access the very latest theoretical and practical knowledge. The course allows students to study predominantly online, with 5 weeks on campus study, in addition to practical placements at a location you can nominate.
Career opportunities
There is an increasing demand for teachers and educators. You are eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) and can seek employment nationally in both primary and secondary schools and may be able to apply to work in some countries overseas (subject to registration).
Roles for graduates may include becoming a primary or secondary teacher, middle years teacher, along with working in other educational environments. Graduates may also find work in children's services, education leadership-related areas, government, private sector, media and service industries.
Applicants with appropriate undergraduate sub-majors/majors may also be eligible to teach Years 11 and 12.

Fees and scholarships
Postgraduate coursework programs are either:
- Fee-paying (where you pay the full cost of the course). FEE-HELP is available.
- CSP (Commonwealth Supported Place), subsidised by the Commonwealth Government where you pay a contribution towards course costs. HECS-HELP is available.
Students enrolled for certain postgraduate coursework programs may be eligible for student income support.

Fees and scholarships
Estimated fees for international students are indicated for each course above. Fees are indicative only and set at 120 credit points per course, unless otherwise stated, and may vary depending on the number of credit points in which students enrol. Some courses may vary in credit point load and fees will be adjusted accordingly.
There is also a range of scholarships available for international students to assist students.

Your study experience
Middle years teaching placements
Students have 45 days' supervised teaching practice in first and second semesters, and undertake 20 days' engagement in a school-based middle years project in Semester one. They can undertake these activities in the Shepparton region, metropolitan Melbourne, or other Australian states or territories.
