Course description
La Trobe's Bachelor of Arts has always been an ideal avenue for developing strong analytical and communications skills and broad-ranging knowledge suited to careers in many fields. Our restructured BA aims to give you a qualification delivering real world skills to adapt to the changing world. By also choosing the Work Ready program you can add to the standard curriculum by taking work ready subjects designed specifically to prepare you for the workforce.

Students can choose up to two subjects towards a major in the first year, three in the second year and three in the third year.
You can choose a minor specialisation to develop a secondary area of expertise. Electives are available in a range of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences and also in other faculty areas (subject to prerequisites). Major areas of study are listed below:

This course aims to give you a language qualification to complement your undergraduate degree. Studied concurrently with any La Trobe degree, it involves a three-year sequence in one language at beginner, intermediate or advanced level. You can study Chinese, French, Modern Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese or Spanish.

In addition to practical language skills, youll have the chance to develop a basic understanding of the culture and society associated with your chosen language. We encourage you to apply for language scholarships and language programs conducted in selected Asian and European countries..

Prerequisite
Current enrolment in a La Trobe University undergraduate degree. The relevant language coordinator advises students regarding their level of entry and the appropriate sequence of subjects. No prior knowledge of a language is required to enter the beginners' stream. Students who've completed VCE language studies enter into the advanced stream.

Overseas study opportunities

Australians Studying Abroad and the School of Historical and European Studies offer students a chance to study an intensive, accredited course on Renaissance Italy (EST23REI) in Prato, near what is considered the cradle of the Renaissance in Italy.  The subject runs for four weeks in January and is open to both La Trobe University students and cross-institutional students and to non-credit participants. Prerequisites apply for students majoring in Italian.

In addition, there are many opportunities for La Trobe students to study overseas. Students can spend a semester or a year studying in Italy at one of our partner institutions.
