Why study Islamic Finance?
Islamic finance is one of the fastest growing segments in the global finance industry, with a double-digit growth rate. Australia is aligning itself to be a hub for Islamic Finance in the region and the Australian finance industry has already started expanding its business in the same direction.
La Trobe is the first Australian university to offer master programs (MIBF and MFA/MIBF joint degree) and a 3-in-1 online professional development program (IFPD, together with Ethica UAE, the world’s leading certifier of Islamic Finance online learning. Our program has won numerous teaching and innovations awards including three faculty awards, two university teaching citations and the 2010 the national ALTC (Australian Learning and Teaching Citation) award.
These degrees are primarily aimed at providing high quality training to cater for the growing need of the domestic global and industry. These cutting edge courses introduce participants to important building blocks of Islamic Finance and train students in the technical skills in demand by global Islamic capital markets and institutions. You will develop expertise in Islamic banking, insurance and capital markets, along with an understanding of Islamic commercial law.
Our teaching staff enjoy close relationships with the industry and frequently invite them to deliver specialised lectures which adds quality to our subjects and give students the opportunity to network and stay up to date.
Career opportunities
Graduates are prepared for career in the growing Islamic Finance industry with specialisation in Islamic banking in general, and Islamic insurance and Islamic capital markets in particular, along with expertise in relevant conventional finance fields. They are also exposed to serious research questions to prepare them for postgraduate research degrees.

Fees and scholarships
Postgraduate coursework programs are either:
- Fee-paying (where you pay the full cost of the course). FEE-HELP is available.
- CSP (Commonwealth Supported Place), subsidised by the Commonwealth Government where you pay a contribution towards course costs. HECS-HELP is available.
Students enrolled for certain postgraduate coursework programs may be eligible for student income support.

Fees and scholarships
Estimated fees for international students are indicated for each course above. Fees are indicative only and set at 120 credit points per course, unless otherwise stated, and may vary depending on the number of credit points in which students enrol. Some courses may vary in credit point load and fees will be adjusted accordingly.
There is also a range of scholarships available for international students to assist students.
