Why research Human resource management?

Our academic staff have impressive national and international experience. Highly regarded for their research, they are published in leading journals and academic publications. The Faculty’s research centres provide a focal point for research strengths and establish links to government, industry and the wider research community.

We offer broad scope for individual or interdisciplinary team research. Work in a supportive study environment, where academic staff work closely with students to facilitate positive learning outcomes. Take advantage of a range of scholarships and access to excellent library facilities. The main library at the Melbourne campus is one of the best in the southern hemisphere.

Doctor of Philosophy (Law and Management) continued… Course description The Doctor of Philosophy is taken by thesis but additional coursework or seminars may be necessary. The program enables candidates to engage in independent research that makes an original contribution to knowledge. Research may be undertaken in any of the disciplines with the Faculty including: accounting, business, economics, finance, fraud investigation, global business law, law, public interest law, event management, human resource management, management, management information systems, marketing, sport management, tourism and hospitality management. Prerequisite Masters or Honours degree of at least H2A standard, with dissertation demonstrating ability to undertake research at doctoral level, or equivalent demonstrated skills, experience, research or publications. Master of Business [research] continued… Course description This program requires the submission of a thesis of up to 60 000 words. Candidates can undertake research in human resource management, management, management information systems, marketing, organisational behaviour, sport and leisure management, or tourism. Prerequisite Bachelor degree with at least second-class Honours in an appropriate discipline, or qualifications considered by the Higher Degrees Committee to provide equivalent preparation for postgraduate research. How to apply

You can apply for research candidature at any time. However, applications for research scholarships close on 31 October.

To apply for Master's candidature, you need an Honours degree or Master's Preliminary. For Doctoral (PhD) candidature, you need a Master's or a Bachelor's degree with Honours, usually with a result of at least H2A.

Before applying, it's best to contact a potential academic supervisor and receive in-principle approval for your topic.

Once you've done this, you can download an application form [PDF 1.02Mb] and submit it to La Trobe's Research Services office.

Fees and scholarships

Research degrees are funded by the Commonwealth Government via the Research Training Scheme (RTS) (fees may apply to some components of some Professional Doctorates).

There are a range of scholarships available for local students.
