We have professional development short courses for those with a qualification in health information management or clinical coding.
Courses
Clinical Coding Refresher Course
This online short course is the longest-established Coding Refresher in Australasia and aims to refresh skills and knowledge of people with a Health Information Management degree or previous coding short course. This course runs for ten weeks and you need access to a computer and the internet. You must have a qualification in clinical coding (e.g. MRA/HIMs, Nosologists, OTEN, HIMAA or DEP course). The course is based on the 2013 Eighth Edition of the International Classification of Diseases – 10th Revision – Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM), Australian Classification of Health Interventions (ACHI) and the Australian Coding Standards (ACS). Update and refresh your skills and knowledge in abstracting from the record, content and application of the Australian Coding Standards, coding skills at the casemix complexity level of a mid-size public hospital, introduction to AR-DRGs and data reporting rules. You will need coding books or software that can be purchased from the National Casemix & Classification Centre.

Clinical Coding Auditing Course
The only one of its kind in the world, this unique course is designed to provide knowledge and develop skills in the auditing of coded data, analysing and reporting on audit outcomes, and development of strategies for dealing with these.
This is a five-month distance education course to enhance skills in auditing coded data and analysing, reporting and acting on the audit outcomes. You must have a qualification in clinical coding and extensive experience is recommended. You will work through the course material in a systematic way within a specified timeframe. Assessment will be by one major assignment and a final examination.
There are four modules in the course:
- Module 1 - Principles of Casemix and Casemix Funding Models
- Module 2 - Theory and Principles of Auditing
- Module 3 - Statistical Analysis and Methodology
- Module 4 - Audit Outcome

Fees
We do not refund fees after the course starts. If you withdraw from the course before it starts, an administration fee of $100 will be deducted from your refund.

Clinical Coding Refresher Course
The course fee is $1,475* and the optional face-to-face tutorial is $150* (*subject to change). La Trobe University students qualify for a student discount.
Clinical Coding Auditing Course
The course fee is $2,125 (subject to change).

Clinical Coding Auditing Short Course
