Course description

This course is designed for health and human service professionals who want to develop knowledge and skills in areas associated with the aged. Course content addresses the promotion of healthy ageing and independence, as well as services and policies related to the support and care needs of the frail elderly.

Course structure

Students complete the core subjects Foundation Studies in Gerontology, Care and Support Services for Older People, Health and Wellbeing of Older People, and two electives from a select list.

Tuition fee (AUD)

Indicative (2010): $14,170 (per 120 credit points)
The University reserves the right to vary fees on an annual basis. Fees will not normally rise above 7% per annum. Should the University decide to increase its fees, that increase will take effect on 1 January of the following year.

Prerequisites

An applicant will normally be required to hold a degree or diploma in health sciences or a related area which provides an adequate background for the program. Applicants without such qualifications but with relevant experience may be permitted entry into the postgraduate diploma or single unit/s where appropriate. Selection criteria may include work experience and skills

Semester 1 and 2 (March and July)

Additional information

Students will have the option to undertake an Industry project (University-based, for academic credit)

The program is relevant to a wide range of professionals including health and welfare administrators, medical practitioners, nurses and allied health professionals such as dietitians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, social workers, speech pathologists, pharmacists, and podiatrists.
