Course description

The course is offered jointly through La Trobe University and selected Institutes of TAFE. It includes both University and TAFE units of study and provides a professional teacher education credential for those who are currently involved with teaching and training in environments such as industry or TAFE, or those who have an interest in this area.

Course structure

This course has a total of 120 credit points, made up of six 20-credit point units. This normally consists of 60 credit points of enrolled university units and 60 credit points of advanced standing (credit) for modules undertaken at the Institute of TAFE or private Registered Training Organisation (RTO). University enrolled units include: Methods of Teaching (Adult), Curriculum Development and Design and an approved 20-credit point elective. The TAFE component of the program consists of the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and 60 hours of VET Teaching Practice.

Tuition fee (AUD)

Indicative: $11,320 (per 120 credit points)
Fees adjusted per 20 credit points of university enrolled units. TAFE units attract a different fee.
The University reserves the right to vary fees on an annual basis. Fees will not normally rise above 7% per annum. Should the University decide to increase its fees, that increase will take effect on 1 January of the following year.

Additional costs (AUD)

There may be additional costs ranging from $25 - $50 for course materials.

Prerequisites

Bachelor degree; or recognised professional or trade qualification which satisfies requirements for employment in th TAFE sector plus five years' industry experience.
Special entry for equivalent professional qualifications or experience will be considered.

Career opportunities

Recent graduates have found employment in the following areas: Lecturers in TAFE in a variety of learning areas, Training development officers and instructors in the Australian Defence Force, Nurse Educators, Adult Educators in government or community organisations, training officers in engineering, manufacturing and service industries.

Professional recognition

The Graduate Diploma in VET attracts a range of professional accreditations in the VET sector in Victoria and NSW, including sponsored Teaching Fellowships awarded through the Victorian TAFE Development Centre
