Length
One year full-time (one day per week on campus, one day per week on placement, plus 13 reflective practice placement-related tutorials), or two years part-time (placement taken in second year).

Course description
This course is for people who wish to practise as professional counsellors but also for those who want to take on a major counselling role within another profession. It will appeal to anyone working in general medical practice, community health, nursing and other health care areas, education, religious ministry, and those who aspire to run a private counselling practice. The course includes a practical placement and may articulate to the Master of Counselling and Human Services.
Course structure
Students complete five subjects. The course can be completed in one year. If undertaken as part-time (available only to domestic students), it is recommended that core subjects be completed as a cohort, and the clinical placement component in a second year.

Tuition fee (AUD)
Indicative fee (2010): $14,040 (per 120 credit points)
The University reserves the right to vary fees on an annual basis. Fees will not normally rise above 7% per annum. Should the University decide to increase its fees, that increase will take effect on 1 January of the following year.

Prerequisites
Applicants should be graduates with some counselling experience, but those with other professional qualifications or who can demonstrate appropriate academic skills will be considered. Applicants are required to complete a written application.

Professional recognition
The course is in line with the Psychotherapy Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) registration requirements.
