Course description

This course provides students with the specific knowledge and professional skills required for Registration as a Division 1 Nurse with the Nurses Board of Victoria (or equivalent).

Students gain a rich and varied clinical experience. Melbourne (Bundoora) students undertake their final year at one of two major teaching hospitals (the Austin or Alfred Hospital). Regional students gain significant clinical experience at major regional hospitals. Students may also negotiate interstate and overseas placements. Sophisticated on-campus nursing laboratories (with high-tech manikins and simulation technology) enhance students' skills considerably.

Course structure

First year: A common first year with a strong foundation for nursing professional studies. Inter-professional learning also allows students to collaborate with students in other disciplines - a unique feature of this course.

Second year: Involves knowledge and skills acquisition, with students undertaking clinical placements in both semesters in a variety of clinical contexts.

Third year: Includes increased client case load, greater independence in decision-making and delivery of client care, in-depth consideration of the nursing role, and the transition to being a registered nurse.
