Course description
This course combines an accredited professional qualification in law with studies in economics. The Bachelor of Laws provides an innovative legal education that includes the subjects required for admission to legal practice, as well as a broad range of electives, many with a practical skills component. It also includes core specialised subjects relevant to economics, such as Competition Policy and Law, Banking and Finance Law. In addition, students may take an approved unit from the Master of Laws in Global Business Law. See the entry for the Bachelor of Laws for further information.
The Bachelor of Economics provides training in core areas of economics, including microeconomics, macroeconomics, quantitative analysis and economic history as well as applications of economics to policy issues. Specialisations are available in: microeconomics analysis and policy, macroeconomic analysis and policy, business economics, international trade and finance, business models and forecasting, and resources and environmental economics.
Course structure
Students complete 22 law subjects - 17 compulsory subjects and five electives; and 18 economics subjects and other business electives. Honours is offered to high-achieving students; Honours in Law is undertaken in the final year, while Honours in Economics requires an additional year of full-time study.
Contact hours
3 contact hours per 15 credit point subject and 4 hours per 20 credit point subjects in law. Normally 3 contact hours per business subject.

Non-Year 12 applicants must complete and submit a Pi form for work experience to be considered.
Prerequisites
VCE Unit 3 and 4: Study score of at least 35 in English (ESL) or 30 in any other English and at least 20 in Mathematics (any).

Career opportunities
Law graduates can seek positions in the legal profession, politics, business and commerce, government service, public administration, education, community legal services and public interest advocacy groups. Economics graduates have the skills necessary for employment in large corporations, government organisations, administration, public relations and the banking and finance industries.
