Course description
This course qualifies graduates to register as dental practitioners. The Bachelor is a three-year pre-registration degree that prepares students for entry into the two-year Master's program, which focuses on clinical education.
Course structure
The first two years of the Bachelor of program focus on basic science and exposure to clinical issues, offering science and public health subjects. Students also have some preclinical and clinical exposure. The third year develops preclinical and clinical skills, allowing students to build up technical skills before the focused clinical exposure in the Master of Dentistry, which provides places in clinical facilities around regional Victoria.

Prior to undertaking professional placements, students must obtain a police check (Victoria Police: approximately $A14) and provide proof of immunisations. Other approximate costs include clinical coat A$80, uniform A$160, La Trobe name badge A$8, safety glasses A$15, pre-clinical instruments A$500 over the three years (also available on loan from department subject to bond), articulator and face bow (not in the first year) A$2000. Students can purchase these items from any supplier; they remain students' personal property.
Middle Band
A regional bonus will be applied to this course for applicants whose home postcode is from regional Australia as per the Rural Remote and Metropolitan Area Classification 3-7, visit www.healthworkforce.com.au/main_rrma.asp to determine the RRMA classification for your locality. SEAS criteria also considered.

Non-Year 12 applicants must have completed the UMAT.
Prerequisites
VCE Units 3 & 4: Study scores of at least 35 in any English (or 40 in ESL) and at least 35 in Biology or Chemistry.
